Police Training Programs

ARMA’s police-training programs were developed by cops for cops — with an emphasis on how to deal with real-life physical confrontations on the streets.  We understand officers come from all ages, shapes, sizes and physical conditions – so our programs are designed to allow the officer to work within their own physical limitations without compromising their safety and enhancing their survival ability in the street and in the courtroom.

We understand officers to not have 20 years to become proficient with their physical skills and what they learn today might have to be used tomorrow.

There comes a time in every police officer’s life when they have to flip the switch from controlling a subject to fighting for their life — and preparing for these situations is where Dave’s programs excel.

His training applies the tactical understanding to enable any officer to work within their own physical limitations (not all of us are 25 and in great physical shape) and to operate within existing legal limitations.

For example, trainers who have never worn a ballistic vest or carried a firearm have a hard time understanding the tactics needed to work effectively in the street and deal with legal issues of force-on-force options.

Anatomically correct — that’s the key to understanding how to physically control a subject who is being passive or combative. In other words, it is critically important to control subjects without bending, twisting and torturing the limbs in a way that could cause injury.  This control is achieved by apply anatomically correct techniques that require compression and positioning of the limb without reducing blood flow and circulation or effecting the breathing of a subject being controlled.

These techniques do not require the acceptance of pain to be effective – therefore we can explain in court that the injury a subject may have received was from the level of resistance and not from the application of a technique.

We wanted to make sure stood behind our training with a developed protocol:

  1. Must be able to teach the technique within 3 easy steps – we have found over the last 30 years the best technique is the one the officer can remember under stress!
  2. Must be able to conduct each and every technique with their complete assigned duty gear so they are prepared to respond in the environment they are working and being attacked in – we have found that it does you no good to be able to do a technique on a safety mat when in the real world you are in a street, grass, hard wood floor, on the ground or in the water!
  3. The technique should be the SAME NO MATTER where the officer is being attacked – Each technique can be repeated in the standing or ground position which is where most physical encounters end up – ONE TECHNIQUE, ONE SYSTEM TO REMEMBER – ONE GOAL – to WIN!
