Dave Young, a Vistelar director, is the founder of U.S. Fighting Systems, a training organization focused on bringing real-world self-defense training to martial arts schools.
In 2010 Dave came to the conclusion that the same approach he had used to train defensive tactics in law enforcement was desperately needed as an add-on to complement traditional martial arts training.
While martial arts is a sport — with mats, time limits, weight classes, rules, and referees — self defense is not. You can’t throw in the towel if things aren’t going well. And, unlike martial arts, self defense can’t take years to learn — it might be needed at any time to defend someone’s life. As Dave often says, with self defense you can’t afford to be 10-2-1.
So, Dave set out to develop a training system that meet his criteria for real-world self defense that can be used in martial arts schools throughout the world to train individuals, regardless of age, gender or physical capability, how to defend themselves, if attacked — and WIN, both on the street and in the courtroom.
