Hello there. Gary Klugiewicz here with another audiotape from the Radio Health Journal.
Every week I listen to their radio program and find gems of wisdom that I share with people. Recently, I listened to a program entitled “Accentuating the Positive.” I found it both interesting and practical.
Andrew Garrison, one of our consultants, is always talking about focusing on the positive rather than the negative aspects of our daily life. This audiotape shows you how to do this and what the benefits will be.
This brings to mind a line from an old Clint Eastwood movie entitled “Kelly’s Heroes” where a character named Oddball was talking to someone who liked to look at the negative side of things.
I will always remember the line, “Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don’t you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?”
Science now shows that taking a little time to accentuate and focus on the positive brings forth all kinds of benefits for the person practicing this skills.
It is an acquired skills. Practice it and reap the rewards.
Enjoy the audiotape.
Gary,
Thanks so much for sharing this about the negativity bias. It’s clear that what was once a survival mechanism, can now too easily become an excessive or inappropriate focus on negative experiences.
I like the acronym mentioned: H.E.A.L.
1. Have an experience
2. Enrich it
3. Absorb it
4. Link the positive with the negative, contrasting the two (sustaining the positive in our awareness and thus enabling it to really sink deeply into our being).
Thanks again!
