Dr. Ann Newman

Dr. Ann Newman is the Chief Executive Officer of Vistelar.  Ann Newman joined the Vistelar team in July 2020 as the Vice President of Research and Development and rapidly took over a leadership role. Her appointment to the CEO role was a natural progression.

Ann graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1999 with distinction holding a double major in Education and Spanish in addition to a Masters’ Degree in Educational Leadership from Cardinal Stritch University (2002).  She also holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Leadership for the Advancement of Learning and Service from Cardinal Stritch University (2018).

Ann has presented to local, state, and national audiences focused on best-practice instruction, mentoring, curiosity, motivation, and innovation.

Dave Young

Dave Young is a Co-Founder of Vistelar and their Director of Training who has over 30 plus years training and experience in civilian and military law enforcement. Having served as a sworn corrections and law enforcement officer in the state of Florida and he is also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Dave conducts his training around the world in places like UAE, Qatar, United Kingdom, Japan, South Asia, Middle Eastern and African Regions. He is a Master Level Instructor-Trainer, course developer who has expanded his expertise in keeping others safe in industries like education, healthcare, churches, casinos, parking enforcement, and other organizations. Dave is a published author of “How to Defend Your Family and Home,” which lead him to develop a lifesaving program for Surviving Active Shooter Attacks.

Dave has been featured in national publications and magazines for his innovation and dedication to training in People Magazine, Wall Street Journal, Black Belt Magazine, and has been a spokesperson and consultant with CNN and Fox World News on survival, equipment, and tactics. Dave is considered one of our nation’s leading authorities on personal safety and defense.

Gary Klugiewicz

Gary is a nationally known conflict management and defensive tactics trainer and co-founder of Vistelar, a consulting and training institute focused on addressing the entire spectrum of human conflict.

Gary’s career spans 35 years of training in the police, correctional, military, healthcare, mental health, and private security markets. He helped originate Wisconsin’s “unified tactical training” systems. Since the mid-80s, every police officer, jail/juvenile detention officer and prison/probation/parole officer is trained in these systems (DAAT, P.O.S.C.®, PCS).

Starting in the 1980s, Gary implemented these systems in scores of law enforcement agencies, correctional institutions, mental health, and healthcare organizations throughout the United States. In addition, he provided instructor training for Calibre Press’s Street Survival Seminar®, Team One Network, Redman Protective Gear and PoliceOne. Gary retired from the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department in 2001 after 25 years of service.

Gary helped found Vistelar in 2009 with the goal of offering a comprehensive training program of non-escalation and de-escalation coupled with physical alternatives (the entire spectrum of human conflict) appropriate for a wide range of markets, including law enforcement, healthcare, loss prevention, private security, education, business, and corrections.

Debbie Zwicky

Debbie Zwicky has 25+ years of experience working with adolescents and their families in the city of Milwaukee in residential treatment/group care. She spent her time developing programs, supervising and training youth care workers, engaging with youth and families, developing policies/procedures, and collaborating with many community agencies regarding youth issues.

She has been involved with trauma-informed care within residential treatment and worked as a coach for several state/county agencies over the past few years. She is currently doing consulting work for area group homes and is a trainer/speaker for Vistelar.

Joel Lashley

Senior Officer Joel Lashley is a Crisis Management and Defensive Tactics Instructor who has worked as a public safety professional for over 25 years, including 18 years of service in the health care setting. He also co-developed a program for managing the challenging behaviors of children, adolescents, and adults with autism and other cognitive disabilities for police officers, corrections officers, and healthcare providers.

Joel leads the training program for hospital, clinical and social outreach staff in clinical violence management at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, the only level-one pediatric trauma center in the region.  Joel is a trainer, program developer and consultant on forensic patients, behavioral restraint, and special needs clients and subjects. He has trained nursing, clinical, social work, psychiatric, education, law enforcement and other public safety professionals, in the management of clients in crisis and those with cognitive disabilities. He has consulted to healthcare systems, school districts, police departments, and crisis management companies.

Joel is a certified instructor for Interventions for Patients with Challenging Behaviors®, Principles of Subject Control (POSC®), and Verbal Defense & Influence. Joel has developed models for the management of forensic patients or ‘patient prisoners’ in the clinical setting.

Kati Tillema

Kati joined Vistelar in 2010 and runs day-to-day operations. Her previous experience includes providing legal assistance to low-income clients and working in the inner city of Milwaukee to combat criminal activity. She earned her J.D. from Marquette University Law School and has used her legal expertise extensively within various community service organizations. Kati is a speaker and trainer for the company.

Bill Singleton

Bill Singleton, named one of the Business Journal of Milwaukee’s Top 40 Under 40 (2012) and White House Champions of Change for Building Bridges Between Youth and Law Enforcement (2015) worked with youth as a police officer in the Office of Community Outreach & Education for the Milwaukee Police Department. He is a retired member of the MPD team that created and developed the international award winning Students Talking It Over with Police (STOP) Program, an evidence-based program aimed at cultivating sustainable positive relationships by decreasing initial volatile interactions.

Bill has been a member of two of Medical College of Wisconsin’s Violence Prevention Initiative teams. Bill was recently named as a National Advisor for the Police-Youth Dialogue project from the Center for Court Innovation. He holds a Master’s Degree in Dispute Resolution from Marquette University.

Bill is currently a partner for Vistelar where he leads our sales and business development teams.

Bill was formerly on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee and the advisory board for Mosaic (a program designed to bridge racial gaps in the City of Milwaukee) and he has been a youth baseball & basketball coach for 20 years.

Allen Oelschlaeger

Allen is a co-founder of Vistelar and leads the business. He has over 20 years of experience as a corporate executive for such companies as Eli Lilly and Company and GE Medical and, since the late 90s, has had leadership roles in several growing businesses. Allen has an MBA from the Wharton School and has been part of marketing faculty at the University of Wisconsin. He is the author or co-author of several books and is a speaker and trainer for the company.
